Applications for JAF PhD and Masters Scholarships for Agricultural Researchers in Australia for 2023 intake are now open. John Allwright Fellowship (JAF) is a scholarship that gives partner country scientists the opportunity to obtain Australian postgraduate qualifications at Australian tertiary institutions. The beneficiary scientists are preferably those currently or recently involved in ACIAR research projects.
The primary aim of the Fellowship is to enhance research capacity in Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research partner country institutions. The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) is an Australian Government statutory authority that operates within the portfolio of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
JAF is the largest initiative in the ACIAR Capacity Building Program in financial terms. It provides PhD and Masters scholarships to agricultural researchers, administered through the Australia Awards system.
Due to ACIAR’s Gender Equity Policy, the Training Committee will select 12 recipients, with at least 6 fellowships awarded to women.

All participating Australian tertiary institutions.
Eligible programmes
All Masters and PhD Agricultural Research courses offered at any of the participating tertiary institutions.
Scholarship value
The JAF PhD and Masters Scholarships for Agricultural Researchers cover full tuition fees and stipends for other study expenses.

Number of Scholarships
For the 2023 intake, the Training Committee will select up to 12 recipients, with at least 6 fellowships awarded to women in line with ACIAR’s Gender Equity Policy.
Eligibility requirements
For you to be eligible for the 2023 intake, you must:
- be a citizen of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Papua New Guinea or Philippines
- be a graduate seeking your masters degree programme or PhD programme
